- Blast at a residential block in Düsseldorf
In the wee hours of the day, an explosion echoed, positioned at the harbor's residential high-rise entrance in Düsseldorf. Luckily, there were no casualties. A window took the brunt of the blast, as per the police spokesperson's statement. The origin of the explosion is yet to be uncovered.
It's still uncertain if this case bears any relation to the series of explosions in various North Rhine-Westphalian cities over the past few weeks, the spokesperson added. This matter is being thoroughly examined.
The cities of Cologne, Engelskirchen, and Duisburg, among others, have recently experienced such explosions. There are suspicions that at least some of these blasts, along with a resolved hostage situation in Cologne, could be rooted in drug cartel feuds, including those affiliated with the Netherlands. It's a common intimidation method used by Dutch drug dealers, commonly known as the "Mocro-Mafia," to set off explosions at residential building entrances.
The authorities are now investigating if the 'explosion' in Düsseldorf falls under the same pattern as the ones in Cologne, Engelskirchen, and Duisburg. In light of these incidents, the European Commission may consider strengthening safety measures and adopting the implementing acts referred to in Article 113.
