Fight against racism - Black-Red wants to set up commission of inquiry
The black-red government coalition aims to establish the planned Commission of Inquiry on Antisemitism, Racism Prevention. The SPD fraction and its chairman Raed Saleh have particularly advocated for this project. According to the text of the proposal obtained by dpa, the Commission will be tasked with developing recommendations on how to strengthen social cohesion and counter Antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia, and all forms of discrimination.
All factions are allowed to propose members
The Commission is therefore supposed to consist of a total of 23 members, who will be elected by the parliament. The CDU fraction may propose eight members, the SPD fraction and the Greens each five, the Linke three, and the AfD two. The Commission is expected to present an interim report on its work in 2025 and a final report in 2026.
The Commission will focus on different forms of Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and racism, particularly against Black people and Sinti/Roma. It will also consider existing measures to combat these issues and develop recommendations for improvement and further development.
Commission will provide recommendations
According to the proposal text, the goals include "developing actionable recommendations that cover political and administrative measures in all administrative areas and at the Senate level." This pertains to long-term improvements. The Commission will also explore, for example, how to create encounter, consultation, and educational offerings to strengthen the democratic community. An Enquete Commission can be established by the parliament to prepare decisions on extensive or complex issues. Upon completion of its work, the Commission will submit its findings in a report to the parliament. The CDU and SPD in Berlin have agreed to establish such a body for Antisemitism and Racism Prevention.
