Black-red coalition talks begin in Hesse
The leaders of the CDU and SPD in Hesse want to start coalition negotiations for a possible new government alliance in Wiesbaden today. A press statement is planned at the start. Around five weeks after the state elections, CDU state leader and Minister President Boris Rhein declared at the end of last week that he wanted to start negotiations with the Social Democrats. He turned down the Greens after almost ten years of black-green government.
The CDU had clearly won the state elections on October 8 and was able to choose a partner for the future government.
The SPD, being in talks with the CDU, aims toform a new government coalition in Hesse, following the CDU's election victory. The planned negotiations, led by the CDU's Boris Rhein and SPD's counterparts, could potentially mark the end of the black-green coalition that has been in power for nearly a decade.
