Black and red focuses on documenta and recorders

The draft of the Hessian coalition agreement includes new rails to an airport and the continuation of a world exhibition. The future ministries are to include a wine-growing and hunting department. And a certain musical instrument plays a role.

Coalition agreement - Black and red focuses on documenta and recorders

More teachers, more policewomen, more money for daycare centers and less irregular migration: such goals in the draft coalition agreement between the CDU and SPD in Hesse quickly dominated the debate. However, other topics in the 184-page paper as the basis for a new black-red state government could also come more into focus. Some examples range from a regional airport to recorders:

Kassel Airport - According to the draft agreement, the small airport in northern Hesse, which has been in the red since it opened ten years ago, is "an important northern Hesse infrastructure project" that should be "better connected in terms of transport": "For this purpose and to reduce CO2 emissions, a rail connection with a link to the ICE train station in Kassel should be examined for the airport and the emerging commercial area." This is around 15 to 20 kilometers by car.

documenta - According to the agreement, the CDU and SPD are clearly committed to the world art exhibition as a "beacon of Hessian culture with high international appeal". Following a debate about accusations of anti-Semitism, the selection committee for the artistic direction of the upcoming documenta resigned completely. As a result, the schedule for the exhibition planned for 2027 may also be shaky. Black-Red emphasizes: "We want to set up the structure of documenta together with the city of Kassel and with the support of the federal government." This includes clear responsibilities, safeguarding artistic freedom and "clear standards to prevent anti-Semitism and discrimination".

Extremism - Black-Red announces a "comprehensive action plan against all forms of extremism" - with a focus on "right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism". At the presentation of the draft agreement, CDU state leader and Minister President Boris Rhein promised that the future state government would also take another look at the Hanau attack. They want to look "point by point" at the improvements suggested by the final report of the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the attack, for example within the police force. On February 19, 2020, a German perpetrator shot nine young people in Hanau for racist motives. He then killed his mother and himself.

Ministry of Viticulture - Rhineland-Palatinate, with two thirds of Germany's vineyards, likes to point out that it is the only one of 16 federal states with the word viticulture in the name of a ministry. But now competition is approaching: according to the coalition agreement, Hesse is to have a ministry for agriculture and the environment, viticulture, forestry, hunting and homeland. Hesse has two of the 13 German wine-growing regions: Rheingau and Hessische Bergstraße. There are even six in the neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Flutes - Black-Red wants to launch a "recorder project with school beginners, in which primary school pupils will receive a recorder and teachers will receive suitable teaching materials. In this way, we want to open the door to the world of music for children as early as possible." These are the words of the draft coalition agreement.
