Bjelicas leads first training session at Union
Union Berlin's new coach Nenad Bjelica started his first training session at 1. FC Union Berlin in a communicative manner and with clear commands. Even before the session began on Monday, the 52-year-old Croatian sought an exchange with the leading players Christopher Trimmel and Rani Khedira. He then addressed the whole team in a speech. Managing director Oliver Ruhnert and Bjelica's son Luka, who is now a trainee at Union, were also in the circle at the Alte Försterei training ground.
After five and a half years with long-term coach Urs Fischer, a new era has begun for 1. FC Union Berlin. This week, the relegation-threatened Iron club face away games at SC Braga (Wednesday) and FC Bayern Munich (Saturday).
The session began with a warm-up, then the team was split into groups for exercises with the ball. Bjelica also used his whistle from time to time. Leonardo Bonucci and Brenden Aaronson, who had missed the 1:1 draw against Augsburg, were back on the pitch. Striker Sheraldo Becker and defender Danilho Doekhi were still missing.
Marie-Louise Eta, who retains her new role as assistant coach under Bjelica, took to the pitch on Monday together with new assistant Danijel Jumic.
During the training session, Nenad Bjelica worked with key players Christopher Trimmel and Rani Khedira, emphasizing his coaching style in the Bundesliga with 1st FC Union Berlin. As the team prepares for crucial away matches against SC Braga and FC Bayern Munich, Bjelica's influence on the squad is expected to be significant in their campaign.
