European Football Championship - Birthday serenade for Rangnick: "A bit emotional"

For Austria's team manager Ralf Rangnick, his 66th birthday brought some attention from his team. "This morning before the video analysis, we naturally sang him a little birthday song and presented him with the cake," said the injured captain David Alaba in Berlin on Saturday. "Then he also addressed a few words to us. It was really nice. I think even he was a bit emotional."

In a video that the Austrian Football Association published on Facebook and Instagram, it could be seen that Alaba handed the cake to Rangnick and gave him a hug. The visibly moved Rangnick wiped a tear from his eye and thanked the team.

The defender of Real Madrid cannot play in the EM in Germany due to a knee injury, but is there as a so-called "Non-Playing-Captain" and supports the coaching team. The Austrians have caused euphoria in the Alpine Republic with their first place in a group with France and the Netherlands. In Leipzig, the team faces Turkey in the round of 16 on Tuesday (9 pm/MagentaTV).

The increased expectation level will not make the team crazy, said Alaba. "The team is handling it well," said the 32-year-old. In the knockout phase, the Austrian national team must remain true to their way, but at the same time try to remain relaxed to continue playing the games as they have so far. "We must continue to follow our plan, but at the same time try to remain loose to continue playing the games as we have so far."
