Social circle - Bigoted comments heard at Louisenlund gathering
During a recent student party at Louisenlund boarding school, some attendees reportedly uttered racist remarks. Around 40 students were present at the event, as disclosed by the boarding school's director, Peter Rösner. Eight of these individuals were alleged to have sung racist slogans to the melody of the over two-decade-old hit "L'amour toujours" by Gigi D'Agostino. As a response, a teacher at the school turned off the music and sent everyone to bed.
Rösner spoke to some of the students after the incident on Monday in order to clarify the situation. The students claimed they were trying to mimic a video created on Sylt during a moment of "foolishness." Their understanding of the potential repercussions of their actions wasn't clear, according to the director. These students will be barred from participating in school activities for a week as a form of disciplinary action.
Over the coming week, these students will partake in volunteer work and contemplate their conduct. The school, teachers, and boarding school pedagogues will also assist in helping them navigate this situation. The track "L'Amour Toujour" will be removed from the student house's playlist. The boarding school intends to enhance its political education and democratic education concepts.
Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) stressed the gravity of singing such slogans, saying that "youthful exuberance or even alcohol is no excuse for racist chants." She expressed concern about potential copycat incidents, explaining that "young people have always challenged social norms." To prevent this, it is crucial to engage with young people and educate them on the consequences of such utterances.
A racist incident from Easter at a noble establishment on Sylt previously caused uproar across the country. In the video, shared on social media, individuals sang "Ausländer raus" and "Deutschland den Deutschen" to the rhythm of Gigi D'Agostino's "L'amour toujours." The state protection agency is currently investigating this matter. Recently, several incidents occurred where Nazi slogans were barked to the song - for instance, in Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
