Best swimming weather on Thursday

Abundant sunshine and temperatures up to 30°C are making people in the capital region eager for a dip in the lake. However, rain is expected from above on Friday, and thunderstorms are possible.

Berlin and Brandenburg can expect excellent beach weather on Thursday, with plenty of sunshine and warm, dry air. Temperatures will climb to near 30°C in some areas, according to the German Weather Service. The day will be dominated by summer sunshine, although it will start off cloudy in parts of the Spreewald and Niederlausitz.

Overnight, temperatures will drop to 17 to 13°C. More clouds will move in during the second half of the night, with showery rain expected in southern Brandenburg. Towards the Saxon border, from the Elbe to the Lusatia, isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain are possible. Rainfall totals could reach 15 to 25 litres per square metre in a short period.

Friday is expected to bring further rain between Berlin and Saxony. It will be cooler than previous days, but the air will be significantly more humid. High temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C. In southern Brandenburg, there will be localised heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms, which will move towards Poland in the afternoon. Elsewhere, many clouds will hang over the region, with the north remaining mostly dry and seeing the most sunshine.

Overnight into Saturday, only isolated showers are expected. Temperatures will drop to 14 to 11°C. The weekend will start cloudy but mostly dry. The sun will show itself more prominently in places on Saturday, warming the capital region to 25 to 27°C.

The following weather forecast indicates cooler temperatures and more humid air on Friday, compared to the previous days. The following regions might experience localised heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms: southern Brandenburg and the area from the Elbe to Lusatia.
