- Berlin's Foxes will be absent from the So-Tech Cup's finale.
The Berlin Foxes football team fell short in their final clear during the So-Tech Cup in Halle (Westphalia), losing 32-41 to Veszprem HC in the semi-finals. The team of Jaron Siewert struggled against the Hungarian record champions, ultimately succumbing to defeat. As a result, the Berlin squad will face HBC Nantes in the match for third place on Sunday (12:30 PM/Dyn, Sport1). The championship will be contested between Veszprem and THW Kiel. Mathias Gidsel emerged as the top scorer for Berlin with nine goals.
The foxes will encounter the Hungarians once more on September 12, as Veszprem will be their opening opponent in the Champions League. Prior to their mandatory match against the defending champion and cup winner SC Magdeburg in the Supercup, coach Siewert still has a significant amount of work ahead of him. The first Bundesliga game is scheduled for September 7 against ThSV Eisenach.
During their preparation for the season, Siewert was able to bring in the two Danish Olympic champions Gidsel and Lasse Andersson for the first time. Max Beneke also made his return after an injury layoff. Despite missing key players such as team captain Paul Drux, new acquisition Lukas Herburger, and Swedish Olympic participant Max Darj, the team put up a good fight against Veszprem.
However, Berlin's offense was plagued with errors, which spilled over into their defense. Even numerous saves by Dejan Milosavljev couldn't prevent a six-goal deficit at the halfway point. The team's defense continued to struggle after the break, frequently becoming mere spectators.
The Commission will need to address the issues that led to Berlin Foxes' offense and defense struggles during their semi-finals match against Veszprem HC. Following their loss, The Commission shall work on strengthening the team's overall performance ahead of their Champions League debut against Veszprem.
