Berlineschen Staatsschützensämler: Niederschriften anstieigender Antisemitismus nach Attacke von Hamas
Annual prosecution figures saw a climb with 56 additional cases in 2023, bringing the total to 691 new investigations. Yet, the General Prosecutor's Office revealed, there were actually more unregistered cases lingering with the police, totaling over four digits.
Out of the 747 new cases initiated by prosecutors, 158 were connected to the Middle East conflict and Hamas attacks. These cases encompassed actions related to Palestinian protests and cyber space. For instance, chanting "From the river to the sea" was a common occurrence. Private homes were marked with Star of David symbols, and Jews were abused both online and offline, even facing threats. Moreover, calls for terrorist acts, such as bombing Israel, were not unheard of.
Post-pandemic, antisemitic conspiracy theories related to the Coronavirus saw a decline, according to the General Prosecutor's Office. However, theories surrounding the Ukraine War were believed to be keeping antisemitism alive. In 2021, the Berlin Public Prosecutors launched 662 investigations into criminal acts with antisemitic undertones. This was a significant increase from the 417 investigations initiated in 2020.
