Film Festival - Berlinale announces first film titles for 2024
Around two months before the start of the festival, the Berlinale has announced the first film titles. The eight films selected so far in the Forum section focus on history and the present, women and generations, according to a statement on Wednesday. One focus of the selection is on regions beyond the Western film industry centers. "We are looking for films that are not self-centered and out of touch with the world, but are boldly interfering," said section head Barbara Wurm.
The Tamil feature film "Kottukkaali", for example, which tells the story of a family that takes out its exorcism mania on a young woman, is also included. The program also includes a production from Singapore and China entitled "Republic" about the Beijing underground.
The 74th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival is scheduled to run from February 15 to 25. The Berlinale is one of the major film festivals alongside Cannes and Venice. The complete program, including the competition films, is to be published in mid-January. According to the film festival, 15 cinemas are among the venues.
