Berlin wants to take part in German Olympic bid
Berlin wants to participate in a possible national bid for the Summer Olympics in Germany. To this end, an agreement - a so-called Memorandum of Understanding - was signed with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) on Tuesday. According to the agreement, Berlin is prepared to host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany together with other cities. A national bid for such games in 2036 or 2040 is being discussed, but nothing has been decided yet.
Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) said after a meeting of the Berlin Senate that such a major event would be a "great opportunity" for Germany and its capital.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) supports Berlin's participation in a potential German bid for the Olympic Games. If selected, Berlin, along with other cities, would host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Olympia, representing Germany.
