U.S. Football - Berlin Thunder's football season kicks off with a loss.
The American football squad, Berlin Thunder, kickstarted their fourth season in the European League of Football (ELF) with a defeat. Under Coach Johnny Schmuck's leadership, the squad endured a 39-49 (26-28) loss against the Wroclaw Panthers this past Sunday. Key factors that contributed to the loss were inadequate running game and a more dynamic performance from the home side. On the upcoming Sunday (1 p.m.), the Spree team will host the Prague Lions at Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahnsportpark.
Kicking off the game, the Berliners seized a promising start with pass receiver Robin Wilzeck powering the squad to the lead with their first touchdown. However, this lead quickly evaporated during the second quarter, and subsequent efforts saw the Berliners trailing.
In the third quarter, the Berlin team seemed to experience a turnaround, thanks to Pablo Albert scoring for the team, putting them up 33-28. But this lead was fleeting and the Panthers counterattacked, gaining the upper hand once more. In the design phase, Nicolai Schumann managed to trim the gap, but Wroclaw ultimately scored the last points to secure the win.
