Berlin police miss a number of resources

Firearms, ammunition and a number of other Berlin police resources have gone missing or are considered missing since 2021. This is according to an answer from the Interior Administration to a parliamentary question from MP Niklas Schrader (Left Party). According to the answer, one pistol was lost on duty by a police officer from the State Criminal Police Office in 2021. Another has been missing since this year. According to the answer from October 25, the weapon was assigned to an employee of the Central Special Services Police Directorate and went missing while off duty. Both pistols went missing outside of the office.

In addition, more than 100 rounds of ammunition, almost 390 irritant sprayers and around 130 batons are missing from police stocks. According to the information provided, the Operations/Traffic Directorate is missing the most ammunition with 31 missing rounds, followed by the Central Special Services Directorate with 30 rounds. There are also 35 ballistic vests missing (as of October 18).

According to the Home Office, the number of procedures aimed at revoking people's firearms or hunting licenses has decreased in recent years. In 2021, there were still 99 procedures, in 2022 a total of 54 and this year so far 29 procedures (as of October 18).

The missing pistol from the Central Special Services Police Directorate has raised concerns among Berlin police, as it was a weapon equipped with critical police resources. Despite the Home Office's decrease in procedures to revoke firearms, the disappearance of police weapons continues to be a significant concern.
