Berlin Left Party wants to look ahead at party conference

The Berlin Left Party is meeting for a party conference in Friedrichshain on Friday (4 p.m.). Following the loss of government participation in the spring and a long dispute in the federal party over Sahra Wagenknecht, who wants to found a new party, the capital's Left Party now wants to look to the future. "It should be a party conference of cohesion and new beginnings," said state chairwoman Franziska Brychcy.

Among other things, the approximately 175 delegates are to adopt a resolution entitled "No neighborhood without Die Linke: We stick together. Now more than ever!". The party wants to make it clear that it wants to be more active in the districts than before and take care of local people's problems.

Delegates will also be presented with three motions from the state executive board calling for an affordable heating transition for all, equal educational opportunities for all children and young people and good healthcare close to home. Janine Wissler, Federal Chairwoman of the Left Party, is expected to attend as a guest.

Since the plans of Bundestag member Wagenknecht for a new party were announced in mid-October, the Berlin Left Party has recorded significantly more members joining than leaving. This means that the party, whose membership has been on a downward trend for years, has once again exceeded the threshold of 7,000 party members.

Despite the loss of government participation and the internal disputes, the Berlin Left Party is determined to move forward at their party conference. Several delegates are planning to depart from the conference, signaling their intention to leave the party.
