Berlin fan zone to be extended for German round of 16 match

The German national team matches in particular attract tens of thousands to the fan zones. The cities are reacting - and are expecting an even bigger crowd for the German-Danish round of 16.

EM - Berlin fan zone to be extended for German round of 16 match

The Berlin Fan Zone before the Brandenberg Gate will be expanded for the German national team's Round of 16 match against Denmark, according to organizers. The area on Straße des 17. Juni will extend to Bellevueallee, allowing a total of 70,000 people to watch the game at the Fan Zones before the Brandenberg Gate and the Reichstag Building. Moritz van Dülmen, Business Manager of the organizer Kulturprojekte Berlin, stated this on Friday.

München's Olympiastadion opens for Public Viewing

In Dortmund, over 100,000 fans are expected. In addition to the over 60,000 football fans with tickets for the stadium, thousands more are anticipated to attend only the Public Viewing in the Westfalenpark and the city center. To accommodate them, an additional area with tents will be opened in the large park near the stadium. A total of 43,000 people can then watch football there and cheer on their team.

Preparations are also in full swing in the other German EM cities. The Fan Zone in Hamburg offers space for 10,000 visitors, while the adjacent Public Viewing area can accommodate an additional 40,000. The Olympiastadion in Munich will be opened specifically for Public Viewing to accommodate the large crowds.

Berlin Fan Zone already filled during group stage

The Fan Zone at the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin was already expanded during the third group stage match of the German national team against Switzerland. While all EM games are broadcast from the area around the Reichstag, this is only the case on the Fan Mile before the Brandenberg Gate when Germany plays or there are games in the Olympiastadion. The organizers announced on Friday that they would be showing two additional Public Viewings: the Round of 16 match between Romania and the Netherlands, and the Round of 16 match between Austria and Turkey on Tuesday.

  1. The expansion of the Berlin Fan Zone is not limited to Denmark's game against Germany; ZDF will also broadcast the Round of 16 match between Romania and the Netherlands from this extended area.
  2. In contrast to Denmark's match, fans in Germany's city of Dortmund are looking forward to a different experience, as over 100,000 individuals are expected, including those attending the Public Viewing in Westfalenpark.
  3. Germany's national soccer team off the field is not the only attraction; in Cologne, visitors can explore the Roman-Germanic Museum, while those in Dresden can visit the Zwinger Palace and the Semperoper.
  4. During the group stage, the Berlin Fan Zone exceeded its capacity, indicating an even greater need for expansion for the Round of 16 matches against Denmark and potential future games.
  5. The Fan Zones in both Germany and Denmark are in high demand, with fans flocking to Berlin to watch matches at the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag Building, and fans in Copenhagen gathering around Parken.
  6. Despite Berlin and Dortmund's popularity, Germany's soccer fans will have other opportunities to watch their team in the EM, such as the Round of 16 match between Austria and Turkey at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
