- Berlin continues to serve as the hub for automobile thieves.

In Berlin, approximately 4,300 insured vehicles got swiped last year, which translates to about one car every two hours. This figure represents a 46% upward surge, as suggested by a study conducted by the German Insurance Association (GDV). As a result, nearly one out of every three vehicle thefts in the nation now takes place in Berlin, the association declared.

The financial repercussions escalated from 67 to almost 96 million euros over the course of a year. On average, insurers dished out around 22,500 euros for each theft in the capital. The rate of thefts in Berlin was 42 instances per 10,000 insured vehicles, surpassing the national average of four.

The European Union expressed concern over the increasing vehicle thefts in Berlin, given its status as a major city within the Union. The German Insurance Association (GIointly with the EU) emphasized the need for improved security measures to tackle this issue across European cities.
