Berlin companies dissatisfied with Senate policy

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce has accused the Berlin Senate of losing itself in projects that are not necessary from the IHK's point of view, such as the training levy and the 29-euro ticket. The Chamber announced on Tuesday that the training levy would create neither more places nor more contracts. The 29-euro ticket is "a pure waste of money and lacks solidarity." "High interest rates and construction costs, plus the shortage of skilled workers - nobody can say how to get construction going again," said IHK Managing Director Jan Eder on housing policy. When it comes to modernizing the administration, there may not be a problem of knowledge, but there is a major problem of implementation.

The IHK backed up its criticism of the Senate's policy with a company survey. According to the survey, 54% of companies are "dissatisfied" with Berlin's education policy and a further 35% are "rather dissatisfied". "This is not a good result, but it was not to be expected," commented Eder. According to the survey, dissatisfaction with transport policy is similarly high (44% "dissatisfied", 43% "rather dissatisfied").

Education policy

According to the survey, 48% of the companies surveyed said that they were dissatisfied with the basic skills of school leavers applying for jobs. "So much has been going wrong in the education system for decades, and it will take years to improve. It will take a major effort," said Eder.

Career orientation

The number of vacant training places is many times higher than the number of people looking for them, said the Managing Director. Career guidance therefore needs to be intensified in order to bring school leavers to the vacant training places. According to IHK President Sebastian Stietzel, everyone tends to know about ten training occupations - after good career guidance, there should be 20 to 30 in their own area of interest.

Transport policy

Eder criticized the fact that individual road users are still being played off against each other in transport policy. Among other things, the IHK is calling for loading and delivery options in shopping streets to be improved, for example by banning resident parking permits for such streets. Kantstraße, on the other hand, is a real-life laboratory for everything that goes wrong with transport policy. "Actually, all parking spaces should be removed there to ensure safe cycling and delivery traffic," said Eder. The money that is now being used for a 29-euro ticket in the AB area should have been invested in the expansion of public transport from the IHK's point of view.

Administrative policy

Frustration with bureaucracy is apparently particularly high among companies: 71% of the companies surveyed by the IHK stated that they are "dissatisfied" with Berlin's policy for reducing bureaucracy and modernizing administration. "However, the government parties, the Senate and parts of the opposition seem to be willing to introduce relevant changes next year," said Stietzel.

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce has raised concerns about the Berlin Senate's economic policy, specifically criticizing the training levy and the 29-euro ticket as misplaced priorities. In a survey, 54% of companies expressed dissatisfaction with Berlin's education policy, and 44% are dissatisfied with the transport policy, citing issues such as career orientation, skill gaps, and road user conflicts.
