Berlin CDU parliamentary group meets in Warsaw

The Berlin CDU parliamentary group arrived in the Polish capital Warsaw on Friday for its closed meeting. "Poland is our closest neighbor and the relationship with our twin cities is important to us," said parliamentary group leader Dirk Stettner. Berlin has the ambition to look beyond its own backyard.

On Friday, the parliamentary group will discuss, among other things, how everyday life in Berlin can be improved through close cooperation with Brandenburg, for example through better transport routes, coordinated regional development planning and healthcare.

In Warsaw, the CDU MPs, including Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, also want to discuss Berlin's Olympic bid and housing issues. The parliamentary group will be accompanied by Olympic champion and multiple world and European champion in discus throwing, Robert Harting. A tour of the national stadium in Warsaw is on the agenda with him on Saturday. Harting will also take part in the discussion on the parliamentary group paper "Olympia 2036 - the world as a guest with friends 2.0".

The group members are also planning a visit to the Varso Tower, which at 310 meters is the tallest skyscraper in the European Union. The MPs want to discuss a position paper entitled "Radical, vertical - skyscrapers as beacons of urban development".

Berlin architect Christoph Langhof and Krzysztof Gornicki, Senior Partner of the architectural office of Foster & Partner Warsaw, will also be taking part. The new German ambassador, Viktor Elbing, will brief the CDU parliamentary group on the current domestic political situation in Poland. The return flight of the MPs and their companions is scheduled for Sunday.

During their discussions in Warsaw, the Berlin CDU parliamentary group will also touch upon Berlin's Olympic bid, seeking potential collaborations with Polish officials. The Parliamentary group's visit to the national stadium on Saturday includes Olympic champion Robert Harting, who will contribute to the discussion on the "Olympia 2036" paper. Additionally, the group will tour the House of Representatives and Senate buildings in Olympia, learning about the legislative processes in Poland.
