Berlin and Brandenburg hope for faster construction in the near future
In view of the tight housing market in the capital and the surrounding area, the states of Berlin and Brandenburg are counting on the rapid implementation of the planned faster construction. "We will certainly push ahead with what we can do as state legislators, including coordination with the state of Brandenburg," said Berlin's construction senator Christian Gaebler (SPD) at the Berlin-Brandenburg Parliamentary Conference on Monday.
A week ago, the heads of government of the federal states and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) agreed on an acceleration pact to speed up the construction of apartments, wind turbines, power lines and railroad lines. The states of Berlin and Brandenburg had already campaigned for this beforehand.
The Berlin construction senator is also hoping that the federal government's plans to extend the simplified construction of accommodation for refugees will have an effect on the entire housing construction sector. "That would be a considerable improvement," said Gaebler. "In this sense, we would of course also have the opportunity to build more quickly and easily in order to take account of the tight housing market."
The Parliamentary Conference was launched in 2022 by the Brandenburg state parliament and the Berlin House of Representatives to promote cooperation between the two states at parliamentary level. Only some of the MPs attend the conference. The results go to the respective committees.
The states of Berlin and Brandenburg are actively engaging in Parliament to expedite the implementation of their faster construction plans, which directly impacts their housing policy. Gaebler, Berlin's construction senator, expressed his hope that the federal government's plans to expand simplified refugee accommodation construction could positively influence the entire housing sector, aiding in tackling the tight market.
