Berlin 2026 as a goal: Sabally hot for basketball team

Germany's best female basketball player Satou Sabally has a very clear goal in mind with the national team. The 25-year-old from the Dallas Wings is determined to make it to the 2026 World Championship in her home city of Berlin. "That really is a dream. That I will play a World Cup in my hometown, where it all began - it's a full circle," said Sabally in an interview with the Tagesspiegel newspaper. Sabally grew up in the capital and began her career at TuS Lichterfelde.

But first Sabally, who played for Germany for the first time in four years in the European Championship qualifier in the Czech Republic on Thursday evening, wants to qualify with the German team for next year's Olympic Games in Paris. The qualifying tournament for the 2024 Summer Games will take place in Brazil from February 8 to 11. "It's another dream come true," said Sabally, who was recently voted one of the top five players of the WNBA season.

Sabally's basketball aspirations extend beyond the 2026 World Championship in Berlin. She aims to lead the ladies' team to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as well. Sabally's home city of Berlin has a special place in her heart, as she began her basketball career there.
