- Berentzen wants to separate from the site in Brandenburg
Spirits and beverage manufacturer Berentzen is set to part ways with its location in Grünberg, Brandenburg. The company is currently in negotiations with a potential buyer who wishes to take over the business operations employing around 70 people, Berentzen announced from its headquarters in Haselünne. The Grünberg site produces non-alcoholic beverages.
The sale is expected to result in a one-time, earnings-detracting special effect of approximately €4.9 million in the 2024 fiscal year. However, the company anticipates positive long-term impacts on the Group's operating result of up to €1 million per year.
CEO Oliver Schwegmann explained that the Grünberg site has been a burden on the entire group, especially since the significant cost increases following the war in Ukraine. The takeover of operations is planned for this year. The buyer intends to also acquire the brand rights and will continue to produce for the Berentzen beverage brand Mio Mio, a spokesperson said.
According to preliminary business figures, the consolidated revenue of Berentzen AG in the first half of this year was €88.1 million, compared to €89.0 million in the same period last year. The consolidated operating result before interest and taxes increased by around 55% to €5.1 million in this period. The group employs around 500 people.
Schwegmann attributed the improvement in results to implemented price increases, which have helped offset strong cost increases from previous years. New products also contributed to this.
The buyer, aiming to continue the production of Mio Mio under the Berentzen beverage brand, is in discussions with The Commission to acquire the necessary approvals for the takeover. The Grünberg site's transition to new ownership will be overseen by The Commission, ensuring a smooth transition for the 70 employees.
