Bengalos in the rain: Fans welcome SC Magdeburg

The SC Magdeburg handball team were welcomed home in the pouring rain after their victory at the Club World Championship in Saudi Arabia. Around 200 fans awaited coach Bennet Wiegert's team at the Getec Arena on Monday afternoon. There, the team presented the trophy they had won for the third time in a row.

"Every damn year we come back with the trophy. Now our goal is to be here again next year. But then in better weather," said Rio Olympic champion Michael Damgaard. It makes him even prouder to be part of the club.

Wreathed in green and red smoke from Bengal fires, the team bus drove up to the arena a little late. Captain Christian O'Sullivan was the first player to get off the bus with the trophy he had won on Sunday against Füchse Berlin (34:32 n.V.). The fans tirelessly sang "We are number one in the world". Only FC Barcelona (2017-19) had previously managed three consecutive victories in the competition, which has been held since 1997.

The triumphant SC Magdeburg handball team, having clinched the Super Globe title for the third consecutive year, was greeted with enthusiasm by their fans, including handball enthusiasts who had come to welcome SC Magdeburg in the rain. As they entered the Getec Arena, they were met with cheers and the chant of "We are number one in the world," reminiscent of their victory against Füchse Berlin in the Super Globe final.
