Belgian royal couple continue their state visit to Germany
A visit to a youth welfare project with Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) and a meeting with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) were also planned for the afternoon. On Thursday, the royal couple will travel on to Saxony, where they will visit the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the historic Christmas market in Dresden.
The royal couple's trip to Germany began in Berlin on Tuesday. Steinmeier received King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at Bellevue Palace with military honors. This was followed by a joint discussion. This was followed by a walk with Wegner through the Brandenburg Gate and a visit to Berlin City Hall.
Later, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Victims of War and Tyranny. In the evening there was a state banquet with Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender in honor of the royal couple.
