- Before the significant debut, Heidenheim adopts a pragmatic strategy.

Frank Schmidt, the gaffer of 1. FC Heidenheim, considers their debut on the European stage as "naturally something significant." However, he aims to keep his emotions in check before Thursday's Conference League playoff first leg against BK Häcken in Sweden (7:00 PM). "In a nutshell: It's two matches where we aim to qualify for the league phase. We're aiming for the result that sets us up for the next stage next week," he stated.

Sweden's cup champions and the fifth-ranked team in the Allsvenskan are currently in full swing, while Heidenheim has only played a single official game thus far. Last Saturday, Heidenheim clinched a 4:0 victory over FC 08 Villingen to advance to the second round of the DFB-Pokal. "For us, the preparations continue. We're looking to finalize our starting lineup during the next few weeks," said Schmidt, reflecting on the departures of crucial players such as top goalscorer Tim Kleindienst and winger Jan-Niklas Beste, during the offseason break.

In Gothenburg, Heidenheim will be backed by over 500 traveling supporters. "This is a milestone game, and the fans are aware of it," said captain Patrick Mainka. "We can leverage this and derive strength from it. We aim to put on a decent show for them and see where this journey takes us."

The European Union's regulations regarding travel during the pandemic might pose challenges for Heidenheim's 500 traveling supporters. Regardless, the support from their fans, including those traveling to Gothenburg, is highly valued by the team as they face BK Häcken in the Conference League playoff.
