For more than two decades, Filmfest Hamburg is commencing anew under fresh leadership. While it won't undergo a full transformation, innovative aspects will be integrated. Notable figures in the cinematic sphere are anticipated to return to the Elbe.

Before their Hamburg cinema debut, a number of international film festival winners will be shown once more at Filmfest Hamburg. This includes the Palme d'Or winner "Anora" by Sean Baker and the Golden Lion winner "The Room Next Door" by Pedro Almodóvar, as revealed by Filmfest Hamburg.

Also set to screen is the German entry competing for the foreign Oscar, "The Seed of the Holy Fig Tree" by Mohammad Rasoulof, along with international competition films from Ireland, Romania, Morocco, Canada, and Japan. The opening film for the ten-day festival is "Kings of the Summer", a debut from director Louise Courvoisier. Pedro Almodóvar's "The Room Next Door" is slated as the closing film on October 5th.

In total, film enthusiasts can anticipate 124 films from international directors, including five world premieres. These films delve into the world's current state, examine inner and outer conflicts, and propose potential futures.

Famous faces on the red carpet

The screenings will take place in 14 cinemas throughout the city. Frequently, the creators and cast members of the productions are also present. Expected attendees include directors and actors such as Jacques Audiard, Andrea Arnold, Pia Marais, Joshua Oppenheimer, Mohammad Rasoulof, Diane Kruger, Helena Zengel, Maren Eggert, Edgar Selge, Luna Wedler, and Christoph Maria Herbst.

For the first time in two decades, the 32nd edition of Filmfest Hamburg is under new leadership with Malika Rabahallah as the festival director. This year, a free day has been added on October 3rd with free entry to 14 cinemas. A total of 35 films, including the literary adaptation "The Bookbinder" with Christoph Maria Herbst based on Carsten Henn's novel, can be viewed for free.

Last year, approximately 46,000 people attended Filmfest Hamburg. Notable figures on the red carpet included Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen and German actors Sandra Hüller, Jens Harzer, Bjarne Mädel, Barbara Auer, and Heinz Strunk.
