Entry - Before Champions Leagu game: PSG fans controlled

Before Borussia Dortmund's Champions League preliminary round match against Paris Saint-Germain in Dortmund on Wednesday, the police checked incoming fans at the borders. The aim was to seize dangerous objects such as weapons, pyrotechnics and striking tools and to prevent violent fans from entering the country if the legal requirements are met, the Federal Police announced in Aachen on Wednesday.

Almost 100 vehicles, including buses, and more than 350 people were checked. For some PSG fans, the journey to the soccer match had already ended in Aachen, the police said without giving any further details. Among other things, pyrotechnics, masking material and pepper spray were seized as a preventative measure.

The officers were supported by French and Belgian colleagues during the checks from 6 am to 4 pm at the German-Dutch and German-Belgian borders. "The French officers present in particular worked to ensure that their own fans behaved peacefully," reported the federal police.

The tri-national approach with Belgian and French support was an example of successful European police cooperation. The operational concept was also tested with a view to next year's European Football Championship.
