Before Augsburg of all places: Berisha seriously injured in the knee
International Mergim Berisha has suffered a serious knee injury and will not only miss TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's match at his former club FC Augsburg. "He's in Munich today, where he'll be diagnosed further. But he is definitely out for the game and for the time being," said coach Pellegrino Matarazzo ahead of the Kraichgauers' Bundesliga match in Augsburg on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky).
The 25-year-old striker was injured in training. Berisha joined TSG from Augsburg after the start of the season for a transfer fee of around €14 million, but has not been able to establish himself as a regular and has yet to score a goal.
At the beginning of the year, Berisha played his first two international matches for Germany under Hansi Flick against Peru (2:0) and Belgium (2:3). He made his first appearance in Hoffenheim's starting eleven in the 1-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Cup. Wout Weghorst and Maximilian Beier are currently the TSG's main attacking options.
Despite his recent international appearances, Mergim Berisha's knee injury rules him out of TSG Hoffenheim's Bundesliga match against his former club FC Augsburg. Regrettably, Berisha, who joined Hoffenheim from Augsburg with a €14 million transfer fee, hasn't been able to display his full potential in the Bundesliga or score a goal yet, leaving Wout Weghorst and Maximilian Beier as the primary attacking options for TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga match against Augsburg.
