The administrative court has made a ruling. - Beeswax cloths could potentially reappear on the market.
When it comes to the disagreement about the sale of beeswax wraps, the Berlin Administrative Court has made a judgment in the favor of the seller. On a recent Tuesday, the judge at the court, Kathleen Wolter, revealed that there is no potential harm connected with the provided items. The Administrative Court allowed an immediate appeal against the prohibition of sales.
In this instance, the focus was on beeswax wraps provided by a supplier. These wraps were marketed as a substitution for plastic film when it comes to food packaging. The authorities of a Berlin district administration had picked up 19 samples of the product from across Germany over the course of October 2021 to March 2023 to assess the odor or taste of foods like bread, cucumber, or cheese. In 13 instances, the testers found a strong odor and taste divergence, notably with bread. Consequently, the food control office had promptly forbidden the sale of the beeswax products of the supplier.
The court, however, concluded that the testing was unnecessary. Although, it remained unclear if the ban was still valid as the company had reassured that the probable trigger, a tree resin, had already been diminished. The novel products were yet to be tested. The decision on May 10 is final.
