Yearly account - Beer consumption in a mini-van is considered acceptable.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's tap system beer is safe to drink, according to the State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries' latest report. This fortunate revelation came from the results of in-depth beer sample studies. In Rostock, they released the findings on Monday after conducting thorough investigations. Around 70% and 60% of the samples from the tap systems and inspections, respectively, were unproblematic. These examinations were conducted by the food safety and veterinary authorities as part of their regular checks.
Despite the mostly satisfactory results, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) reiterated the need for timely cleaning and disinfection of tap systems. The self-checks carried out by the operators left something to be desired in certain instances. The ministry analyzed a total of 64 beer samples from various establishments, such as hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, bistros, and more in 2023. Four of these samples (6%) showed significant increases in bacterial counts, while 14 other samples (22%) had slightly higher levels of bacteria present. All the cases were reported to the relevant authorities for immediate cleaning and disinfection. The presence of these bacteria counts signifies poor hygiene practices, but does not pose any health concerns for the public.
Furthermore, 57 inspections were carried out in total. 33 of these checks were entirely fine, leading to minor warnings in 20 instances because of inadequate staff training or minor contamination issues. There was a verbal warning in one situation, and three other establishments received written warnings for their inadequate cleaning systems and structural faults that made cleaning difficult. These faulty cleaning methods and undocumented processes led to the warnings, according to the ministry.
