Rostock - Because of Hansa fans: Mayor fears damage to image
Following the riots by soccer fans of FC Hansa Rostock, Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger fears damage to the image of the entire city. "What has happened to FC Hansa in recent weeks is damaging the whole of Rostock. Unfortunately, we are on a path where a few people are gambling away the hard-earned reputation of our city," the left-wing politician told the "Ostsee-Zeitung" (Monday).
Supporters of the second division club had once again made negative headlines at the weekend. During the 3-0 defeat in Paderborn on Friday evening, fans caused brawls with several injuries, threw objects at police officers and smashed up drinks and food stalls in the stadium. Hansa's CEO Robert Marien also said in response: "The fact is that the external image and the events are now a complete disaster, there's no other way to describe it."
