Beaver lodges removed: Train route free again
The tourist resort of Oberstdorf in the Allgäu was cut off from rail traffic for several weeks due to damage caused by beaver lodges, but the line is now open again. The beaver damage has been repaired and the cavities in the beaver lodges have been filled, a spokeswoman for the railroad announced on Tuesday. In the coming weeks and months, protective nets will be installed to secure the dam.
The damage caused by beavers to a railroad embankment was discovered in mid-October during maintenance work. The railroad set up a replacement bus service between Sonthofen and Oberstdorf due to the closure.
The disruption to the rail traffic in Swabia's Oberstdorf was mainly due to beaver lodges near the railroad, causing delays. Now that the lodges have been removed, nature enthusiasts can enjoy the tranquility of the railroad route once again.
