Music shows - Beatrice Egli becomes a judge on "DSDS"

A good ten years after her victory in the RTL casting show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar", pop singer Beatrice Egli is returning - this time as a member of the jury. The 35-year-old will join Dieter Bohlen (69) and Pietro Lombardi (31) on the jury for the spring season, the broadcaster announced on Friday. Rapper and influencer Loredana (28) will take fourth place.

Egli was the first female artist with a German pop song to be successful on the casting show in 2013. "The show is and will always be the start of my career. It's like coming home!" said the Swiss singer. With her appearance as a juror, she now wants to give something back to the team and the viewers. "I am curious about the voices of Germany."

Rapper Loredana comes from a completely different musical direction. Show titan Dieter Bohlen is looking forward to the two new judges. "It will be very interesting, because they will of course have completely different opinions," he said. The 21st edition of the show has all the ingredients for a "great season".

"DSDS" was already on the verge of ending

RTL had actually announced that the 20th season would be the last this year. While up to 15 million people watched the first season in 2002/2003, only a good two million tuned in to watch the last season. But then Bohlen surprisingly announced a continuation in 2024. "DSDS" has an "incredible distribution" via streaming, including on Instagram and Tiktok, he said.

Incidentally, when the "DSDS final" aired on RTL this year, Egli performed at the same time as her "Die Beatrice Egli-Show" on ARD - attracting significantly more viewers than the casting format.

Casting for the show begins in December

For the first time this year, singers aged 16 and over can take part in "Deutschland sucht den Superstar". The candidates for the TV show will be selected in advance during a Germany-wide casting tour. The first casting will take place on December 16 in Cologne.
