Preceding the regional voting event - BDI President Russworm voices critique towards AfD in Thuringia

The head of Germany's Federation of Industries, Siegfried Russwurm, from the BDI, has given the Alternative for Germany (AfD) a tough talking-to before the regional vote in Thuringia. He's worried that the AfD's hostile stance towards foreigners could worsen Germany's existing problem with a lack of skilled workers, as he mentioned to "World."

Russwurm also tackled the AfD's Thuringian leader, Bjoern Hoecke. Previously, Hoecke spoke out against the "Made in Germany - Made by Diversity" initiative and wished financial harm on the participating firms. According to Russwurm, these statements are concerning for the economy and demonstrate the ineptitude of the party. He reiterated that a government involvement by the AfD would significantly damage the economy and prosperity in Eastern Germany. The party deceitfully portrays itself as the representative of small and medium-sized enterprises in the region.

The AfD's economic policies, as advocated by Hoecke, could potentially drive away foreign talent essential to Germany's skilled workforce, given its critical stance towards foreigners. Moreover, an AfD-led government in Eastern Germany could hinder the region's economic growth and prosperity, as warned by Russwurm from the BDI based in Germany.
