Basketball Bundesliga - BBL: Towers celebrate sixth win at MBC
Veolia Towers Hamburg successfully defended its playoff position in the German Basketball League table with its sixth win in its tenth game. The team of Head Coach Benka Barloschky prevailed 86:81 (51:38) at Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club on Saturday evening, taking revenge for last season's 80:123 defeat at Weißenfels. The visitors' best scorer was Aleksander Dziewa (17 points).
It was also Dziewa who had put the Towers ahead after just 20 seconds with a successful three. However, the home side dominated proceedings for large stretches of the rest of the first quarter and was already ten points ahead at one stage. However, the Hanseatic club was not impressed by that, took control in the second period and pulled well ahead by the break. Jonas Wohlfahrt-Bottermann, who was the Towers' top scorer at this point with ten points, stood out in particular.
After a good start to the second half, the Hanseatic club then had problems keeping the MBC at bay. The lead had dwindled to five points with two minutes remaining. Yet the Towers held their nerve. Aljami Durham made two free throws with 14 seconds remaining to decide the game.
