Basketball game - BBL: Rostock celebrates clear success against Braunschweig
After a weak start to the German Basketball League season, the Rostock Seawolves have fought their way back closer to the play-off places. The team of Head Coach Christian Held defeated Löwen Braunschweig by 101:78 (52:42) on Sunday to record its fifth win in its eleventh game. The best scorer for the club from Mecklenburg was Derrick Alston (23 points).
The crowd in the Stadthalle witnessed a curious start. Braunschweig, which had been in fourth-last place in the three-point shooting statistics up to that point, drained all three shots from beyond the arc in the first two minutes to take a 9:8 lead. After that, however, Rostock dominated proceedings for the time being and, apart from a missed free throw, scored every one of its attempts up to the fifth minute to pull 24:9 ahead. The lead had grown to 22 points midway through the second period, but the Mecklenburg club then slackened noticeably as the game progressed to the break.
However, the home side was much more composed again after the break and posed Braunschweig major problems, especially in defense, up to the end of the third period. The Seawolves were also the more effective team in the final period and so also won their third encounter against the Lions in the BBL.
