Bayern's basketball players win overtime thriller
FC Bayern Munich is gaining momentum in the Basketball Euroleague after a real thriller. The ambitious team of coach Pablo Laso won a furious match at French club Villeurbanne on Thursday after two overtime periods by 101:100 (88:88, 74:74, 37:40) and has caught up with the middle of the table. After ten games this season, Munich have a record of 4:6 wins.
Bayern proved to be more accurate at the start. The Bundesliga club won the first quarter 22:18. The home side was able to turn the match around by the break and went into the break with a narrow 40:37 lead. Munich stretched the gap to nine points before the final period (51:60/30th minutes).
The visitors got back into the game in the fourth quarter with a clear improvement. After scoring nine points in a row, Munich took a 73:69 lead with two minutes left on the clock. As Bayern's Leandro Bolmaro only converted one of two free throws with six seconds left on the clock, the game went into overtime.
In a thrilling first period of extra time, Nick-Weiler-Babb saved Munich with a three-pointer shortly before the end to take the game into the second overtime (88:88/45). World champion Niels Giffey ensured the 101:100 victory with a successful free throw.
FC Bayern Munich's basketball team, having secured a victory in the Euroleague, will aim to maintain their form in their next Euroleague match in Munich. Despite facing a tough challenge, the home crowd is expected to provide significant support, much like they did during the thrilling overtime win against Villeurbanne.
