Study - Bayern replaces Dortmund as the most popular club again
Series champions FC Bayern Munich have once again overtaken their perennial rivals as the most popular club in the Bundesliga, according to a survey. In the survey conducted for the ninth time by SLC Management from Nuremberg, Dortmund took the top spot for the first time last year, but the Munich club has now overtaken them again.
The authors took a total of 18 criteria into account for the study, including objective criteria such as the number of members and fan clubs, stadium capacity utilization and the clubs' reach in TV broadcasts and social media. However, subjective criteria such as image and attractiveness, which were determined by surveying relevant target groups, also played a role in compiling the ranking. Topics such as sustainability, family friendliness and popularity in the league were also included.
SC Freiburg moved up from sixth place in the previous year to third place, followed by Union Berlin, which also moved up three places. The biggest losers in the study, for which around 30,000 people across Germany were surveyed, were 1. FC Köln, which dropped from fifth to eighth place, Borussia Mönchengladbach, which fell from fourth to ninth place following its relegation, and relegated Hertha BSC, which was 15th last year and has now slipped to 18th and last place. Two years ago, the Berliners were still in eighth place.
