Bundesliga - Bayern plan training camp in Portugal or Morocco
German soccer champions FC Bayern Munich are planning a training camp in Portugal or Morocco between the first two Bundesliga matches of the new year. Coach Thomas Tuchel named these two destinations on Friday. "We are currently planning," said the 50-year-old. According to Tuchel, the stay in southern Europe or North Africa will last four to five days between the home games against TSG Hoffenheim on January 12 and the start of the second half of the season against Werder Bremen on January 21.
The measure he wants is about "spending time together and being able to be on the training pitch for longer". In the warmth and, if possible, in the sunshine, "tactical things can be trained better" than possibly in wintry Munich.
In previous years, Bayern had always prepared for the second half of the season in Qatar at the beginning of the year, partly due to a partnership with Qatar Airways. This contract expired this year and was not renewed.
After next Wednesday's away game at VfL Wolfsburg, the Munich professionals will go on vacation until the New Year. Training will then resume in Munich on January 2. On January 6, Tuchel and his team will play a test match in Switzerland against FC Basel.
