Soccer - Bayern loanee Stanisic: "Bad mood doesn't help"

He could be in the cup final for the first time and suddenly he is even setting up goals - Josip Stanisic is making progress in some respects. "I'm not used to doing that," said the Croatian after the 3:1 win with Bayer Leverkusen in the cup round of 16 against SC Paderborn on his third assist in a week: "But you're always developing." Before the two assists in the 2-0 Europa League win in Häcken last Thursday, he hadn't set up a goal in over two years.

But apart from that, the 23-year-old has failed to take the step he had hoped for since his loan move from serial champions FC Bayern Munich. He was only allowed to start once in the Bundesliga, otherwise only in the Europa League or in the cup when coach Xabi Alonso rotates.

"Things could be going better for me personally," he said. The 21 competitive games without defeat for his team are "still the most important thing for him. But it would be a lie if I said everything was perfect. But it doesn't help to put the team in a bad mood. Of course there are days when I'm in a better mood and others when it's worse. But that's down to my nature, always wanting to play.

That's exactly why he went to Leverkusen. Curiously, however, he would probably have more appearances in Munich in the meantime because Benjamin Pavard left the record champions after Stanisic's transfer and coach Thomas Tuchel has been complaining about a shortage in defense ever since. "It is what it is," said Stanisic about his reserve role at Bayer: "I joined later, then I was ill, and Odi is doing an outstanding job."

Odi, that's Odilon Kossounou, and after the winter break he will be at the Africa Cup for up to a month, just like his defensive colleague Edmond Tapsoba. Then Stanisic will be set and challenged. And the curious thing: unlike Bayern, with whom he has never reached the final, he is still in the cup with Leverkusen. And leads the Bundesliga table ahead of his parent club.

Josip Stanisic's loan from serial champions FC Bayern Munich to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in North Rhine-Westphalia has seen him contribute three assists in a week, including two in the Europa League. Despite his personal struggles with regular game time, Stanisic is focused on the team's 21-game unbeaten run in competitive matches. He might have more appearances in Munich due to Benjamin Pavard's departure, but he's content with his role in Leverkusen, acknowledging the exceptional performance of Odilon Kossounou. With Kossounou and Edmond Tapsoba set to be away for the Africa Cup, Stanisic will have his opportunity to shine. Interestingly, Leverkusen is in the cup despite not reaching a final with Bayern.

In contrast, Bavaria's FC Bayern Munich has yet to reach a final in any competition this season. Despite this, the team is still in contention for major titles in Germany and Europe.

Stanisic's performances with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the DFB Cup could potentially see him feature in a cup final for the first time. However, he remains grounded, understanding that individual achievements should not negatively impact the team's morale.

The cup final in Germany is a coveted trophy for any German soccer team, including Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Bayern Munich.

Unable to secure a regular starting spot, Josip Stanisic resorted to chopping wood in Leverkusen to pass time and stay focused.

In soccer, teams from all over Germany, including Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Bayern Munich, compete in various leagues and cups, striving for success and glory.
