Basketball - Bayern basketball team to host 2024 cup finals
FC Bayern's basketball team can defend their title as German Cup winners in front of a home crowd. As announced on Tuesday, the so-called Top Four of the last four teams will take place in Munich's BMW Park on February 17 and 18 next year. In addition to Bayern, Alba Berlin, Bamberg Baskets and champions ratiopharm Ulm have qualified for the cup final round.
Munich last hosted the final games in the competition in 2021. In 2023, they won the cup for the fourth time with a 90:78 (43:35) victory over hosts EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Bamberg and Munich will meet in the semi-finals on February 17, with Berlin and Ulm contesting the other. The following day, the cup winner will be crowned.
"The Top Four could hardly be more top-class. Bamberg, Berlin, Munich and Ulm are the four clubs that have won the cup in the last eight years and the German champions in the last 14 years," explained Bundesliga Managing Director Stefan Holz. "All four semi-finalists would certainly have put together an outstanding top four. But only one could win the bid. Now Bayern will show that they are the perfect hosts for a highly emotional and spectacular basketball event."
