Basketball Bundesliga - Bayern basketball players win top match against champions Ulm
Thanks to an improved performance after the break, FC Bayern Basketball won the top-of-the-table Bundesliga game against ratiopharm Ulm. Bayern beat the German champions 95:80 (43:45) at home in BMW Park on Sunday, inflicting Ulm's third defeat of the season.
After an evenly poised first half, Bayern pulled away decisively in the final quarter. Ulm was unlucky that a three by Juan Nunez towards the end of the third quarter to make it 66:66 was subsequently disallowed by the referees because time had already run out. Leandro Bolmaro was the best scorer for Bayern, whose Vladimir Lucic celebrated his comeback after a long injury layoff, with 19 points.
Alba Berlin came away with a hard-fought win. The club from the capital won 90:85 (40:47) at EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Alba turned the game around in the final period against a weakened Oldenburg squad, which went 24:11 to the Berliners. World champion Johannes Thiemann shone with 24 points.
The surprise team Niners Chemnitz remains top of the table. The team from Saxony clearly beat Heidelberg 93:69 on Saturday evening to celebrate their tenth win in their eleventh game of the season.
