Basketball Bundesliga - Bayern basketball players say goodbye to center Gillespie
The FC Bayern basketball team has parted ways with center Freddie Gillespie (26). As the Bundesliga club announced on Monday, the US-American is moving to Serbian Euroleague participant Red Star Belgrade after one and a half years in Munich.
"Freddie was great on and off the court. But sometimes it happens that a player can't be satisfied with his role due to a deep rotation, and that was the case with Freddie recently," said Sporting Director Daniele Baiesi about Gillespie. "We wish him nothing but the very best for his next adventure."
The 2.06-metre defensive specialist joined the club in the summer of 2022 from the development team of the NBA club Memphis Grizzlies. "It wasn't always easy on the court, but it was all worth it. I'll always be grateful for my time in Munich," said Gillespie, who played 47 Euroleague games and 41 Bundesliga games for Munich.
They will meet again in Munich's Euroleague home game against Red Star on March 1.
