Eurooa League - Bayer striker Schick ahead of starting XI comeback against Molde

Patrik Schick has waited a long time for this day. After more than a year and a persistent adductor injury, the Leverkusen goal scorer will return to the starting line-up for the Europa League match against Molde FK on Thursday (18:45/RTL+). This was confirmed by coach Xabi Alonso on Wednesday.

"Yes, he already knows," said the Bayer coach in the press conference. Schick has already made a few brief appearances and scored two goals. "I didn't expect it to go so well straight away and that I'd already scored two goals," said the Czech.

The team also made his return easy, he explained. "It was a long time and not easy for me. I'm happy that everything bad is behind me and I can focus on the future," said Schick. Physically and mentally, he feels 100 percent ready.

"I need every minute now and want to play as much as possible," said the 27-year-old ahead of his starting eleven comeback. After all, he is a striker who has already scored more than 20 goals in a season. "I don't want to sit on the bench. But I know that I have to work hard to earn my place in the starting eleven," said Schick.

Against the Norwegians, coach Alonso will again rotate in a number of positions after having already secured victory in the preliminary round Group H. Goalkeeper Niklas Lomb will be used for the first time this season. "He's earned his chance and is ready," said Alonso.
