Exhausted yet content, the victorious Bayer Leverkusen squad touched down at Cologne/Bonn Airport past schedule at 2 PM following their 1:0 DFB Cup victory against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst was present to greet the champions on the tarmac.

Even with overcast weather, some players sported shades while deplaning after a relatively brief rest following their DFB Cup triumph. Longtime Captain Lukas Hradecky, undeterred, cradled the DFB Cup in his hands during a humorous exchange with WDR. "I actually didn't know where [the cup] had spent the night," he quipped. "Today, I'm taking care of him." Hradecky reflected on a memorable night. "We celebrated in a great way," he added. "Now we can let go." The team's lone loss of the season, the Europa League final against Atalanta Bergamo a week prior, had faded into history.

National team member Jonathan Tah, beaming with pride, transported the Bundesliga trophy to the waiting busses. "We let it all out," Tah confided. "A few of us got some rest during the flight." The seasoned defender acknowledged, "It'll be a lengthy day for us."

Next on their itinerary, the team members journeyed to Morsbroich Palace for an official signing in the city's Golden Book. Joining them was Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach and North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Herbert Reul. Afterwards, a motorcade would take them to BayArena, where thousands of eager supporters awaited their arrival.
