- Bayer Leverkusen clinches the Supercup victory over Stuttgart
In the inaugural championship of the football season, Bayer Leverkusen bagged their very first trophy. They outshone the previous season's second-placers, VfB Stuttgart, in a nail-biting penalty shootout with a score of 4:3 (2:1, 1:1). It was Stuttgart's Silas who missed the final penalty against the reigning, undefeated champions of the previous doubled-up campaign.
Victor Boniface (11th minute) gave Leverkusen an early lead in front of a roaring crowd of 30,210 at the packed BayArena in Leverkusen. Enzo Millot (15.) and Deniz Undav (63.) responded for Stuttgart's runners-up. Patriik Schick (88.) levelled the score for Bayer just moments before the regulation time ended. Leverkusen's newcomer, Martin Terrier, received a red card in the 37th minute for a harsh challenge.
Despite facing a disadvantage due to a red card, Bayer Leverkusen managed to secure their victory in the German Bundesliga, outperforming VfB Stuttgart once again. The hard-fought victory marked their second trophy in the Bundesliga.
