German league - Bavaria's fitness coach Broich addresses allegations: "An act of defamation"
Bayern Munich's fitness trainer, Holger Broich, has hit back at allegations that he's to blame for the numerous injuries that plagued the team during the last season. With the German champions reportedly considering letting him go, Broich stated his disapproval of the situation during an interview with "Kicker."
"The facts speak for themselves: We had a poor season and endured numerous injuries," the 49-year-old said. "But to blame just one person for our problems, I find that very disheartening." Broich, also known as Bayern's "Scientific Director and Head of Fitness," questioned the absence of collective responsibility when it comes to the team's performance and injuries. "Where's the blame for the coach, the doctors, the therapists? That is mere speculation," he added.
Broich expressed discontent over being singled out as the sole cause of the team's struggles. "In a team, everyone is responsible. It's too simplistic and superficial to pin it all on just one person," he said.
Last season, several Bayern players missed valuable playing time due to injuries. Some players even experienced multiple muscle injuries throughout the campaign. Tom Tuchel, the manager at the time, publicly addressed this issue on several occasions. According to "Kicker," however, Broich raised internal concerns about the potentially hazardous training protocols set by the coach.
In addition, "Kicker" reported that when Hansi Flick moved to FC Barcelona, he had considered bringing Broich along. The esteemed doctor currently lectures at a university in Hamburg and was a well-regarded name in the sports world for many years.
