Bavarian Culture Prize goes to caricaturist Dieter Hanitzsch
The Munich caricaturist Dieter Hanitzsch is awarded the Bavarian Culture Prize. He receives the special prize from the Bavarian Ministry of Art. The 90-year-old has captured Bavarian state politics "with a sharp pen and a lot of humor", said Minister Markus Blume (CSU) on Sunday. "As a drawing journalist, outstanding visual commentator and world illustrator, he has made a name for himself in his native Bavaria and far beyond."
The culture prize has existed since 1959 and has been awarded by Bayernwerk in close cooperation with the Ministry of Art since 2005. The special prize is awarded by the Ministry. This year's award ceremony will take place on November 16 and will be streamed live online and on regional television.
Previous special prize winners have included Gerhard Polt, Frank Markus Barwasser, Dieter Dorn, Franz Xaver Bogner, Bruno Jonas and Ottfried Fischer.
Dieter Hanitzsch's distinguished career in caricature and drawing journalism has earned him acclaim beyond Bavaria, as he's also recognized as a renowned world illustrator in the field of Art. His literary contributions through satire and humor in portraying Bavarian politics have been celebrated with various Awards.
In addition to his achievements in Art and Literature, Dieter Hanitzsch is also celebrated for his extraordinary work in the sphere of Journalism.
