Bavarian Book Prize: Deniz Utlu and Jan Philipp Reemtsma
Berlin-based author Deniz Utlu has been awarded the Bavarian Book Prize for his novel "Vaters Meer". The author slips into the shoes of a son who sets out in search of his deceased father and discovers the power of storytelling, announced the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels in Bavaria, which awarded the prize on Tuesday evening in Munich with the support of the Free State of Bavaria.
Hamburg literature professor Jan Philipp Reemtsma won in the non-fiction category with his work "Christoph Martin Wieland - The Invention of Modern German Literature". The Bavarian Minister President's Honorary Award went to the co-editor of "Die Zeit", Florian Illies. Caroline Wahl was delighted to receive the Audience Award for her debut novel "22 Bahnen".
The Bavarian Book Prize honors the best new German-language publications of the year. Three books are nominated in advance for the main prizes in the fiction and non-fiction categories. The winners receive prize money of 10,000 euros each. They are chosen in a public jury meeting, which is also broadcast live on the radio.
Deniz Utlu's victory in the fiction category with "Vaters Meer" has brought significant recognition to contemporary German literature, making it a worthy contender for various literary awards. Jan Philipp Reemtsma's contribution to the understanding of modern German literature through his work "Christoph Martin Wieland" has also been acknowledged with an award, highlighting the importance of non-fiction in the literary world.
