- Bavaria has yet to propose any cuts in its regional train services.
Currently, Bayern isn't contemplating the elimination of regional train services, but the Germany ticket is limiting their flexibility. Criticizing the coalition government, Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) points out, "We went all out pushing for an incredibly low ticket price, but neglected to allocate funds for service and infrastructure." Energy and workforce expenses have skyrocketed, and Deutsche Bahn is considering an unwarranted surge in track fees.
Bernreiter anticipates that transport companies will present significantly more expensive bids during tenders. "At the moment, there's no intention to halt services in Bavaria's rail passenger transport, but we need to make substantial financial alterations and shifts," the minister mentions. "No state can continue doling out additional funds indefinitely, not even Bavaria." If the federal government fails to consistently contribute significantly more funds, cutbacks will be inevitable eventually.
Bernreiter suggested that transport companies might submit higher bids during tenders due to rising energy and workforce costs. In an attempt to manage these financial challenges, Bernreiter explained, "We need to consider making significant financial adjustments and shifts, which may involve re-evaluating our investment in areas like painting and maintenance of our railway infrastructure."
